I’m excited for my fourth year running with United Workers’ “Team Exercise Your Rights!” This has been a great event for an organization that is doing big things here in Baltimore.
My work with Housing Our Neighbors – a grassroots campaign to end homelessness – brought me into the United Workers family several years ago. Our two organizations have been able to build together in our shared vision of housing for all. The friends and family that I’ve developed at United Workers are also my leaders and mentors in this movement, and I am honored to walk – and run – alongside them.
I believe firmly that we will not see an end to homelessness as long as housing remains a commodity. Similarly, the commodification of goods results in chronic hunger, untreated illnesses, families seeing their water and heat turned off, and on and on. The market does not value our right to life with dignity, and thus we must find solutions that exist outside of the market. United Workers is leading the campaign for non-speculative, permanently affordable housing solutions that could transform the over 40,000 vacant homes in our city into a resource for us all. This work is vital if we wish to see a Baltimore which respects our basic humanity.
I hope you'll consider supporting me in this running race. Together, we can run towards a vision of equity, accountability, transparency, universality, and participation - human rights for all!
